Is FurMark Safe for Your GPU?
FurMark is generally safe on a correctly assembled, adequately cooled system when the test is supervised. It is intentionally more demanding than many normal applications, so the operator must monitor the card and respect the limits for the exact model.
Why the Load Is So High
The workload keeps the GPU busy for a sustained period and can expose weaknesses that short benchmarks miss. Power consumption and heat may rise quickly. Modern GPUs normally reduce clock speed or power when they approach internal limits, but protective behavior is not a substitute for working fans and correct installation.
Temperature Has No Universal Number
Safe limits differ by GPU, hotspot sensor, memory type, laptop design and board partner. Use the manufacturer specification for the exact card. A stable core temperature does not guarantee that hotspot or memory temperature is acceptable.
When to Stop
End the test after artifacts, a black screen, repeated driver recovery, burning smell, abnormal fan noise, rapidly increasing temperature, or a value beyond the model specification. Let the system cool before investigating cables, fans, dust, thermal contact, drivers or overclock settings.
Overclocking and Undervolting
Test one change at a time. An overclock that passes a short benchmark may still fail under sustained load. An aggressive undervolt can also cause driver resets or visual errors. Keep a known-good profile available.
